Green Shells are worn by Koopa Troopa, and are the standard shell color for them. Green Shells are either used as projectiles or ridden on as a means of transportation. Two of their common counterparts are Red Shells and Blue Shells. In the Super Mario series, Green Shells are most often found on Green Koopas. By jumping on a Green Shell, let alone a Koopa Shell in general, the Koopa Troopa withdraws into it. If Mario or Luigi kick a Green Shell, it begins moving along the ground, defeating most enemies, bouncing off walls, and activating any ? Blocks it slides into from the side. The Green Shell disappears only when it moves a certain distance off-screen. Koopas wearing a Green Shells fall off an ledge when they reach the edge of one; this is different from Koopas with a Red Shell, which turn around to start walking in the opposite direction when reaching a ledge.
